Earliest Known Fr.271 in Private Hands 1899 $5 Indian Chief Silver Certificate PCGS graded Choice About New 58PPQ. This note displays outstanding color and embossing throughout as you would expect from a note with the third party PPQ designation. This note without the pedigree would seem somewhat common being that there are plenty of examples available in the uncirculated condition. This note however is truly something special being that it is the earliest known serial number for this Friedberg number in private hands, and the 4th earliest known overall. The three lower serial numbers 9,10, & 18 are all held by the Smithsonian making this serial number 980 the earliest known example available to private collectors. To put an estimate without the providence would be in the $2,750-$3,000 range but being that this note carries an excellent providence and history with in we would guess that it could easily eclipse 2-3 times that to the right collector. PCGS Graded.
