1928 $500 Gold Certificate Note Fr.2407 PMG Graded Gem Uncirculated 65EPQ. This rare high denomination Gold Certificate is part of a small choice group of "Gem" grade survivors. In 1933 Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an executive order requiring that "all gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates" be surrendered to the Federal Reserve Bank. The ban on gold certificates lasted until April of 1964 when they were again give legal tender status although it was no longer required that the bearer give gold on demand. Being that a majority of these notes were turned over to the Federal Reserve and destroyed the survival of Gold Certificates in general is rare, but in this high denomination of $500 there are only around 100 known in all grades. This rare Gem example displays original embossing with its unmistakable deep golden-yellow overprint seemingly as vibrant as the day it was issued. This piece is likely to have small size specialist and currency enthusiast lined up for their chance to own this amazing piece of history. PMG Certified.
